Numerology assigns numerical values to letters and dates and interprets the resulting numbers as personality, life-purpose, and relationship indicators. Major Western systems include Pythagorean (A=1, B=2, ..., I=9, J=1, ...), Chaldean (older, A=1 through F=8, no 9), and the more astrology-linked Vedic system. Each system computes core numbers: Life Path (date of birth), Destiny / Expression (full name), Soul Urge (vowels), Personality (consonants). Master numbers 11, 22, 33 are preserved without reduction.
