Tarot is a divination system using a 78-card deck. The 22 Major Arcana cards depict archetypal life themes (The Fool through The World) — major spiritual and developmental lessons. The 56 Minor Arcana are four suits of 14 cards (Wands/Fire, Cups/Water, Swords/Air, Pentacles/Earth) covering daily experience. Cards are dealt in spreads (single card, three-card past/present/future, ten-card Celtic Cross) and interpreted in upright or reversed positions. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck (1909) is the most widely-used modern standard.
