The math is sourced. Every step.
Every calculator on Kaalveda is sourced — the ephemeris is JPL DE441 via Skyfield 1.49, the ayanamsa default is Lahiri, the time-zone history is IANA tzdata, and the Numerology engines cite Cheiro and Strayhorn explicitly. This page lists every source we lean on, with citations and verifiable links.

The sources
Every step, cited.
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory long-baseline ephemeris
The same dataset NASA uses for mission planning. ±13,200 to +17,191 Gregorian. Sub-arcsecond precision for inner planets, a few arcseconds for outer planets.
BSD-3 licensed Python astronomy library
Audit-ready, MIT-grade math. The library is publicly inspectable and battle-tested. We pin a specific version and document the version in every PDF.
Indian government reference for sidereal positions
The default for all Vedic calculators. Computed for the exact moment, not held as a constant. Recompute under Raman, KP, or Krishnamurti on demand.
Whole-sign default for Vedic; Placidus default for Western
Switchable to Sripati / KP for Vedic, Equal / Koch / Whole-sign for Western. The default follows the convention of the tradition.
50+ published-horoscope third-party verifications
Every Vedic calculator verified against the printed Indian almanac. Every Western calculator cross-checked against Astrodienst. Numerology unit-tested against Cheiro and Strayhorn.
Pythagorean (Strayhorn 1990), Chaldean (Cheiro 1900)
Both letter-value systems cited explicitly. Master numbers (11, 22, 33) preserved on Life Path/Expression/Birth Day; reduced on year values. Karmic-debt numbers flagged.
IANA tz database, historical accuracy back to 1900s
UTC under the hood, local time at the surface. Time-zone history honoured (1947 partition, wartime DST, regional unifications).
150,000 Indian pincodes seeded locally; Nominatim (OSM) fallback
Local SQL lookup for India; Nominatim for the rest of the world. Lat, lon, elevation, time zone — confidence reported per geocode.
random_int() over /dev/urandom — cryptographically secure
Not seeded by account ID, not by DOB. Two draws on the same day are independent. The seed is system entropy.

Almanac match · 1990-12-28
Match to within the printed almanac's own margin (a few seconds of arc). If you find a discrepancy, the math correction inbox is at [email protected].
Sceptical questions
Addressed by source.
Is your ephemeris just downloaded from somewhere?
+
JPL DE441 is the authoritative source — NASA publishes it for the world. We do not regenerate or modify it. We load the 115 MB binary into memory at boot and call Skyfield against it for every chart.
Is your ayanamsa value just a constant?
+
No. The Lahiri ayanamsa changes by approximately 50 arcseconds per year due to precession. The engine computes the value for the exact moment of birth, not a single constant for all of 2026.
How can I verify a result myself?
+
Run the same DOB through Astrodienst (Western), the Lahiri Ephemeris (Vedic, printed), or any desktop jyotiṣa software. The Lagna degree, planetary positions, and Nakshatra-pada should match to within seconds of arc. If they don't, email [email protected] — we will reproduce.
Are your Gun Milan scores higher than competitors' on purpose?
+
No. The 36-point Ashtakoot calculation is canonical (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra). Where we diverge from cheap competitors is the Bhakoot correction — many sites skip it and produce inflated scores. Ours includes it. Comparing on the same DOBs, our scores are sometimes lower because we are doing the correction the source text specifies.
