Choghadiya divides the time between sunrise and sunset (day) and sunset to next sunrise (night) into eight equal segments of approximately 90 minutes each. Each segment is named by a planetary ruler — Shubh (Jupiter, good), Chal (Venus, average), Labh (Mercury, gain), Amrit (Moon, nectar), Rog (Mars, illness), Kaal (Saturn, harsh), Udveg (Sun, agitation). Used in muhurat selection — start activities during Shubh, Labh, or Amrit; avoid Rog and Kaal where possible.
