Lahiri ayanamsa (also called Chitrapaksha) is the de-facto standard for Indian sidereal astronomy and astrology. Adopted by the Calcutta-based Indian government calendar reform committee in 1955, it places the start of sidereal Aries (Mesha) at the fixed star Chitra (Spica). As of 2026, the Lahiri value is approximately 24°09'. Kaalveda uses Lahiri as the default for Vedic computations; alternates (Raman, KP, Fagan-Bradley) can be selected per chart.
