The sidereal zodiac anchors the 12 signs to the actual fixed-star constellations. Because the Earth's axis precesses, the sidereal zodiac drifts relative to the tropical (season-fixed) one by about 50 arcseconds per year — a full sign-width every ~2,150 years. Vedic astrology uses sidereal positions; Western astrology uses tropical. The two systems are not contradictory — they answer different questions about the same chart.
