About Ganesh Chaturthi
Begins on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. Devotees install clay Ganesha idols in homes and pandals, perform daily puja for ten days, and immerse the idol in water on Anant Chaturdashi.
Significance
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates Ganesha as the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta) and the deity invoked at the start of any new venture, prayer, or ceremony.
History & story
The ten-day public festival in its current large-scale form was revived by Lokmanya Tilak in 1893 as a way to unite communities and build nationalist sentiment under British rule, building on an older tradition of home worship.
