About Maha Navami
Maha Navami is the ninth day of Sharad Navratri, immediately preceding Vijaya Dashami, dedicated to Siddhidatri, the final of the Navadurga forms who grants siddhi (spiritual perfection). It is also widely observed as Ayudha Puja — the ritual worship of tools, vehicles, and instruments of one's trade.
Significance
Maha Navami closes the nine-night journey through the Navadurga with the goddess's most complete form, and Ayudha Puja extends the day's reverence from the divine to the everyday tools that sustain one's livelihood.
History & story
The custom of Ayudha Puja traces to the Mahabharata, where the Pandavas are said to have retrieved and worshipped their hidden weapons on this day before resuming their identities at the end of their exile.
